Frequently Asked Questions

What is EMS and what can it do for you?

EMS is a full body workout that targets your whole body rather than one specific body area. EMS stimulates up to 98% of all muscles whereas a traditional workout may only use 50% of the actual muscle or muscles targeted. This means your workout can be a lot shorter, a 20 minute workout could be the equivalent of a several normal 90 minute sessions per week, as much as between 4 to 6 hours to target actual muscle groups similar to one Body Express session.

Is EMS safe?

Yes, it is safe. EMS training has been used by the medical industry for over 100 years and has been extensively proven to be safe and very effective
scientifically, including by reputable sports institutions. EMS training is not painful, just a new sensation, that most people get used to very quickly and then start loving because of the health and body benefits soon becoming apparent.

Are other EMS companies the same as you?

Body Express is personalised, targeted, individualised training JUST FOR YOU, one on one, and not in a group or class. How many times do I need to train and how quickly will I see results?

The idea is to replace one to two of your conventional sport or exercise sessions with one EMS workout. To see optimum results, EMS should be used once a week in addition to one or two conventional sports activities, or twice a week, if you are currently too busy to work out. First changes can usually be seen after four sessions, depending on lifestyle.

What should I bring with me for my session?

We will provide you with everything you need for your workout. You can bring trainers if you prefer training with shoes.

Will I get wet during the session?

In order to ensure appropriate impulse transfer, electrode surfaces need to be dampened for good contact between the machine and the client.

Do I have to move or exercise during the session?

Yes, you do. Your trainer will guide you through a series of exercises that are in effect amplified by the EMS system. Performing the right exercises in line with the rhythm of the impulses significantly augments the favourable effects of EMS workouts as opposed to exercising alone.

Will my muscles be stiff after the session?

Muscle stiffness is the worst after the first workout session as EMS works on deep muscles that are hard to reach through normal training. However, this will gradually disappear with regular training sessions. Muscle stiffness can last 2 to 3 days after the session and persists for a longer time than after a normal workout session.

Can the EMS equipment be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

No, it is not to be to be used during pregnancy at all and is not recommended during breastfeeding.

Can the impulse depth, frequency and intensity be adjusted during the session?

The EMS machines can be adjusted by your trainer to the impulse depth, frequency and intensity desired to meet your personal needs depending on your body type, age, gender and level of fitness.

What to expect in your session?

The Session itself is 20 minutes long, it is a full body workout equivalent to 60-90 minutes of high intensity training (it can be adjusted up or down in terms of intensity based on each client’s fitness level and comfort-ability). You put on a provided pair of EMS undergarments (cotton 3/4 sleeve shirt and shorts), over that you wear an EMS vest (looks a bit like a wet suit). In the suit are electrodes that are positioned in the equipment so that they contact your major muscle groups (abs, biceps, glutes, etc) the contact points in the suit are sprayed with a little water first to allow the current to pass through and activate your muscles.

The trainer will lead you through a series of basic exercises (lunges, squats, planks, etc) While you do this, he/she also adjusts the level of the EMS machine so that each muscle group is challenged.
